Family Radio, established in 1958 by Harold Camping, began as a single station in Oakland, California, and expanded into a network broadcasting across the United States and internationally. The network is known for its conservative evangelical theological perspective and literal interpretation of the Bible. Family Radio's programming emphasizes Bible studies, sermons, discussions of biblical topics, traditional hymns, gospel music, and some contemporary Christian music. It also includes call-in programs where listeners can ask questions about the Bible and Christian living, along with news presented from a Christian perspective, often focusing on issues related to faith, family, and morality. Historically, Family Radio was known for playing classical music, but this has been reduced over time. Harold Camping served as president of Family Radio until his death in 2013. Camping developed a belief that the institutional church had become apostate and that true believers should leave organized churches. The ministry faced controversy due to Camping's predictions that the Rapture would occur on May 21, 2011, followed by five months of tribulation and then the end of the world on October 21, 2011. He also predicted the end of the world in 1994. The current leadership has focused on continuing the Bible teaching and Christian music programming that were hallmarks of the station. Family Radio is primarily funded through donations from its listeners.
