Free FM Chill New York 🇺🇸

WNEW-FM, operating at 102.7 FM in New York City, once experimented with a talk radio format known as "Free FM." In 2005, CBS Radio launched "Free FM" aiming to attract a younger audience to talk radio. Later, WNEW-FM adopted a variation called "Free FM Chill New York," a softer version that blended talk segments with alternative rock and pop music. The "Chill" format included morning shows, afternoon drive programs, and weekend specialty content. The music selection during the "Free FM Chill New York" era featured artists like Coldplay, U2, and the Dave Matthews Band, creating a relaxed listening experience. The talk segments were shorter and less politically charged compared to the original "Free FM." Ultimately, the "Free FM" concept, including the "Chill" variation, was abandoned. In 2009, WNEW-FM switched to an adult contemporary format as "Fresh 102.7" before transitioning to Top 40/CHR as "NOW 102.7" and later to its current Contemporary Christian format, still branded as "NOW 102.7."
