KMHD2 Adaptive AAC 🇺🇸

KMHD2 Adaptive AAC is a digital-only extension of KMHD (89.1 FM), a terrestrial jazz radio station based in Portland, Oregon. KMHD is a collaboration between Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) and Mt. Hood Community College. KMHD2 expands the reach of KMHD's jazz programming, providing a specialized listening experience accessible only through the internet. It features different programming than the main KMHD broadcast. KMHD2 employs adaptive streaming technology, adjusting the audio bitrate based on the listener's internet connection. This ensures smooth playback by utilizing the AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) codec, which provides excellent audio quality at lower bitrates. The system selects the highest possible bitrate for optimal sound, switching to lower bitrates when necessary to prevent buffering. Programming on KMHD2 maintains a jazz focus, potentially diving deeper into subgenres such as bebop, hard bop, smooth jazz, or Latin jazz. Listeners may encounter themed programs dedicated to specific artists or eras, live performances, and archival content from KMHD's history.
