Positioned strategically between Vancouver Island and the San Juan Islands, the lab's hydrophone captures marine sounds and transmits them to a shore-based station for real-time streaming and data archiving. The core mission is to monitor orca activity by identifying their vocalizations, track their presence, and assess their behavior to support conservation efforts.
