WQCD, known as CD 101.9, broadcasted on 101.9 FM in New York City and became a defining voice for smooth jazz from 1987 to 2008. The 'CD' in its call letters directly referenced the rise of the compact disc format. CD 101.9 played a mix of instrumental and vocal smooth jazz, showcasing artists such as Kenny G, Dave Koz, George Benson, Boney James, and many others. It consistently achieved high Arbitron ratings, influencing other stations to adopt the smooth jazz format. Following the end of its smooth jazz era in December 2008, 101.9 FM transitioned through formats including 'Mix 101.9' with adult contemporary music and 'WRXP, FM 101.9, New York's Rock Experience' featuring alternative rock. Today, 101.9 FM operates as WFAN-FM, a sports radio station simulcasting WFAN 660 AM's programming.
