WLHA 🇺🇸

WLHA, broadcasting on 90.7 FM in the UW-Madison area, evolved from a carrier current station to a low-power FM signal. Operating since the 1950s, WLHA, nicknamed 'Wisconsin, Land of Happy Acres', offers a freeform format, empowering student DJs to curate their music selections and spotlight genres often ignored by commercial radio. WLHA became a counter-culture haven in the late 1960s and 1970s, championing local bands and diverse perspectives. Specialty shows are common, hosted by DJs with a passion for niche genres or themes. Entirely student-operated, WLHA's programming, engineering, management, and promotion are all managed by UW-Madison students. This hands-on environment cultivates a DIY spirit and allows students to gain experience in every facet of radio broadcasting. As a non-commercial station, WLHA is supported by student fees and university funding.
