WRSU-FM, broadcasting at 88.7 MHz, is Rutgers University-New Brunswick's non-commercial, student-run radio station. Its origins trace back to the 1930s as a carrier current station before transitioning to a licensed FM station in 1972. WRSU provides Rutgers students with hands-on experience in radio broadcasting, encompassing on-air talent, production, management, and engineering roles. The station's programming includes a variety of music genres like rock, hip-hop, electronic, jazz, and world music, with a focus on local and up-and-coming artists. Students also produce talk shows covering current events, politics, sports, and entertainment. A significant part of WRSU's programming is live coverage of Rutgers University athletic events, including football, basketball, and baseball. Faculty advisors provide guidance to the student volunteers who staff the station in roles such as DJs, producers, news reporters, sports announcers, and managers. As a non-commercial station, WRSU relies on funding from Rutgers University, donations, and sponsorships.
