WXYC 🇺🇸

WXYC, the student-run radio station of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, began broadcasting in 1939 as a carrier-current station. In 1977, it transitioned to FM broadcasting on 89.3 FM. WXYC made history in 1981 by becoming one of the first stations to broadcast 24/7 using a computer-generated playlist. Students manage all aspects of WXYC, from DJing to engineering. The station is known for its freeform format, allowing DJs to explore indie rock, electronic music, hip hop, world music, experimental sounds, local music, jazz, and punk without genre restrictions.
